Burnley Cricket Club
BURNLEY are one of the most illustrious clubs in Lancashire League history. With 14 title win and six Worsley Cup triumphs, Burnley have traditionally been one of the teams to beat. They go into the 2007 season as defending champions having ended the long wait since 1979. And 2006 almost yielded an unprecedented treble.
While success on the field has sometimes been elusive, the club have churned out a number of high quality players that have gone on to better things. James Anderson started the 2002 season in the Burnley side, but by the winter, after impressing with the England Academy in Australia, he was elevated to the One-Day International side to face the Aussies in Melbourne, going on to steamroller Pakistan in the World Cup the following year. Anderson made his Test debut against Zimbabwe in 2003, taking five wickets at Lords, and has now taken over 100 wickets for his country in Tests and ODIs combined, recently impressing after a recall to the side. David Brown now plays his cricket with Gloucestershire, with brother Michael now at Hampshire after starting out at Middlesex, while Jonathan Clare has linked up with Derbyshire, although he will still appear for Burnley this season.
